Red Rocks February 2016: Cloud Tower and Texas Hold ‘Em

Life has been pretty non-stop as 2016 marches onward.  Last weekend I finally made it back to Red Rocks for a second time in my climbing career.  I think I still like granite climbing better, but what a stellar place it is.  Last time I visited, I did some of my first multiple traditionally protected leads, this time: Cloud Tower!  This served to remind me how quickly we can progress in whatever we put our minds to (climbing or otherwise) with good mentors, a closed-loop learning process, and a couple years of experience.

Overall, it was a short trip.  I traveled down to meet Ben Kunz and Dave Yount at the Las Vegas airport, having left work at noon in order to land by 4pm. Those guys picked me up in Ben’s sprinter, with the intention of jumping onto Texas Hold’Em the next day.  As a side note, I am surprised that Ben and Dave weren’t taken into questioning by the airport police.  They had the van parked at arrivals, and half of Dave’s garage and possessions were sprawled across the concrete.  Ben was wearing green bell-bottom pants to make the appearance of the group a bit more festive.
